We're representing a client in the Fort Pierce area that is seeking to permanently hire a Kitchen Assistant at their facility.

Position Overview

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of food service, meal prep, inventory handling, enrichment and general support activities in the kitchen as directed by the Kitchen Supervisor. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, refrigerated areas, department vehicle, etc. All kitchen team members will participate in schedule rotation as directed by the Kitchen Supervisor to assure appropriate 7 day per week coverage.

The following is a list of the essential functions of this position. This list is intended to be representative of required tasks but not limit to:

Essential Job Functions

  • Accurately sorts, counts, bins and bags food items per established dietary strategy and nutrition guidelines

  • Inspects food deliveries

  • Monitors inventory of all food and non-food supplies and reports shortages to the Kitchen Supervisor

  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license

  • Ensures the kitchen and food storage area, including refrigerators, coolers and freezers are kept clean and organized

  • Launders and folds towels, washcloths, blankets and other items used in the kitchen.

  • Ensures all kitchen equipment is clean, disinfected and in good working order

  • Disposes of kitchen refuse and recycles as needed

  • Participate in staff meetings, staff training and education session ad  emergency response drills

  • Oversees kitchen operations in the absence of the Kitchen Supervisor

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED

  • Excellent communication skills to promote team work

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instruction

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Previous food prep experience in a zoological setting would be given highest priority
